Untruths in your argument
May 04, 2012 | 11:40 AM Orson, you an author and writer that I respect. And I consider myself a moderate conservative. But you are completely off-base here. Just because "friends" see your loving, committed relationship as a marriage doesn't make it a marriage in the eyes of the state. Since when did your friends have the ability to confer tax and insurance benefits to couples, whether straight or gay? The truth is marriage is a legal status granted by the government. It confers many rights and privileges not afford to unmarried couples. My girlfriend (I am a male) and I do not have the same legal status as you and your wife, regardless of how impressed my friends are with how committed we are to each other. Please, Orson, do your research before you advocate for discrimination against individual citizens on the basis of a generalized paranoia of the "left." JP |
