Obama as Big Brother
Dear Editor,
President Obama wants Congress to pass legislation that would require all automobile manufacturers to install event data recorders in all cars.
Event data recorders, also known as black boxes, can monitor and record several things including a driver's speed, and whether or not he is wearing a seatbelt. More advanced EDRs, with surveillance technology, are coming out all the time. Most new cars already have EDRs but they aren't mandated by law.
Event data recorders are one step away from GPS tracking devices. I don't think that the government should be to allowed to track our movements, or record our conversations, when we are driving down the road.
If you support the right to privacy, and are against warrantless searches, you should contact your legislators and tell them to oppose mandated tracking devices. If the government wants to create a police state, putting tracking devices in all automobiles will be a good start.
