High Salaries In High Point

Employees in other cities in North Carolina must love High Point. Because High Point salaries are so high, they can point to the comparable position in High Point and claim they should get a raise. But who do the employees in High Point point to when they want a raise?

High Point City Manager Strib Boynton is paid $177,501 to manage a city of 107,000, which is more than anyone who works for the City of Greensboro, with a population of 270,000, with the notable exception of Greensboro Coliseum Manager Matt Brown, who is paid $212,332. Greensboro interim City Manager Denise Turner Roth is paid $164,728, but she probably will get a raise if she is named city manager next week.

However, it's not just Boynton. High Point Assistant City Manager Pat Pate, who used to work for Greensboro, is paid $149,671, while Greensboro Assistant City Manager Mike Speedling is paid $145,000. High Point Assistant City Manager Randy McCaslin is paid $140,019 compared to Greensboro Assistant City Manager Andy Scott, who is paid $123,420.

High Point, unlike Greensboro, has not given its employees a raise, so the salaries are exactly the same as they were last year and the year before.

There have been a few changes in the upper echelon from last year's list. Police Chief Jim Fealy retired, so he is no longer on the list. Joanne Carlyle was named city attorney, which gave her about a $20,000 a year bump in salary to $140,001 a year, and she moved up to number four on the list. Otherwise the list at the top is pretty much the same, and a spot check of salaries shows that other than employees who received promotions during the year, the salaries are exactly the same as last year.
