Financing of New Office Park
December 11, 2012 | 10:45 AM

It is irresponsible to spend $13 million of High Point taxpayer money to fund road and sewer improvements for this development project, when we have unpaved streets right here in downtown High Point (Ennis St. near the NC Shakespeare and Henredon building) less than one mile from the Furniture Market. There is a city crew here monthly, dumping more gravel and regrading the road. It brings around ten workers, and 3 pieces of large city equipment. Sometimes they come twice monthly. The water still doesn't drain properly and the road is sometimes barely passable in spite of heavy industrial traffic. In addition to poor conditions, there is a major crime problem in the downtown area, including crack sales, prostitution, murder, sex slavery, and homelessness. Let's take care of "home" before we dump money into DH Griffin's portfolio. I can appreciate the value a business park brings to the area (or just outside the area in this case) , but we really need to address urgent problems right here in the heart of High Point first, before it becomes a total wasteland as it's on track to become.
