So sad
October 07, 2012 | 06:10 AM

Why Mr. Card? Your books are so insightful and well thought out. This article, however, is your canon's antithesis. It saddens me to know that you think allowing homosexuals to marry is a vast left-wing conspiracy a la Hidden Empire. That is not what this discussion is about.
It is an attempt to let people who have a different sexual orientation know that they are not viewed as lesser people. That their LOVE is no less meaningful than heterosexual love. This should not be a religious issue. Barring love is not one of the guiding principles of Christianity. Your article sounds more like something a Pharisee might write, rather than something you'd hear Jesus say.
The right to gay marriage is a human issue, not a political or religious one.
As for the science behind human sexuality, I can say very little. I have not studied it. If you say you have, I have no reason to disbelieve you. But let me ask you this: What if, as you asserted, homosexuality is not a "straightjacket?" What if it is a big fuzzy fur coat that someone decides to where? Do they not deserve the the rights that those who choose to be heterosexual do?
I hope you read this response and know that it is not an attack on your beliefs.
