Crossword Puzzles

I enjoyed Mr. Card's article about Crossword Puzzles. It is in fact the inclusion of the NY Times puzzle that attracted me to RT years ago. Another sideline of this enthusiast is looking at the larger answers on the NY Times puzzle and trying to figure out what the theme was. Thus my dilemma: I missed the Sept. 13 issue. The Sept. 20 issue shows the answers for the Sept. 13 puzzle, but I cannot figure out what the larger answers (baseball player, concert pianist, etc.) have in common. Will you please tell me the theme of the Sept. 13 puzzle and put my mind at ease? Thank you.
