More Wasted Money September 06, 2012 | 11:31 AM
In the past thirty years, High Point has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe millions, on studies, designs, visions and the like for what they would like to do with their downtown. The end result has been to fatten the wallets of the designers, visionaries, architects, planners, etc., etc., without ever doing one thing to actually improve their center city core. Looks like another half million bucks is going to be wasted on yet the latest in a long line of studies and plans instead of anything that would actually do so good.
Perhaps even more sad, is that High Point neglects the talent within it's own city - a myriad of business owners and professionals that could provide the same plan (better probably) than any of these outside "consultants."
I'd guess the last study and center city plan is still hanging in the City Hall somewhere. That seems to be all they really are - expensive, overpriced, artwork.
