One thing that is rarely addressed is the fact that the majority of county employees are struggling to make ends meet since we've had no raises in 5 years. And in case no one noticed the cost of just about everything has increased. Those of us that work in the field and provide direct client care, just like teachers. We may not provide education, but we help with protecting children & adults, provide health education, food, job training, Medicaid, and are the people who others come to when they are in dire straights, some would say that's important. The turnover rate is horrendous as staff are leaving for counties that provide raises. Instead of giving raises they are raising the base pay. So if you've been with the county for 10 years or more you might make $1000 more than new hires, not the best way to ensure veteran staff remains in the county. Also I think teachers have gotten raises since we've county employees. Just some observations.
