Irrational arguments
May 03, 2012 | 04:21 PM

The following is a bogus argument:

"I have a lot of gay friends" is the new " I have a lot of black friends".

It is designed simply to marginalize someone you disagree with rather than deal with rational arguments (kudos to those who were rational).

It is used by those who want to start any argument with the PRESUMPTION that their opponent is racist (or anti-gays). And when it turns out their target doesn't actually behave in a way that fits the presumption, the critics just write it off as being racist, etc, itself!

Ultimately, it results in an attitude that the only way you can be non-racist or not anti-gays is to accept every single thing some people in those groups want, which is absurd.
