June 14, 2011 | 04:26 PM I am a resident of guilford county and I have to say I can't understand why we would build a new jail to house inmates for 23 hours a day instead of putting them to work. I know the prison farm is an exceptional example of how this is done and it seems like to me the county would have been better suited to build an animal shelter there at the farm and let the prisoners work in it. It would be basically free labor, and since our shelter is all but in shambles it would seem better to put it there where the county already owns the property....They would also benifit because they could put big and small animals there. Plus they might even sell more of the farm goods because of the adoption traffic that would come thru there. Why can't someone else see that this would be a good idea and a good use of tax dollars???
