OK, now let me come back to this little girl, and the mother that I was getting ready to take a picture of.

As I said, after I asked the mother if I could take their picture for the paper, the mother said sure, just wait one second.

One of the Disney on Ice people was walking by at that moment and the mother asked her, with the little girl standing right there, when Cinderella would arrive.

The Disney on Ice lady told the mother that there would be no appearance by Cinderella or any other Disney characters, and the little girl – suddenly shocked and confused – said in disbelief, "So Cinderella's not coming?? No Cinderella?"

And then the little girl just started balling. The mother hugged her and explained that it would be all right – it was just, she said, that the princess couldn't make it this year.

But that was small relief for the little girl whose dreams of meeting Cinderella had just been dashed.

I looked at the mother, who was holding the sobbing child, and I said that maybe now wouldn't be a good time to take a picture, and the mother nodded agreement, and the little girl was just balling and balling, and I said, "Hey, I'm really sorry."

And the mother looked at me and she said, "Well, it's not your fault."

And I was thinking: "Well, actually …"
