In fact, it's possible to reach the conclusion that they have thought of everything.

If even an anti-social, disobedient, ride-hating, mouse-ears-loathing grump like me can come home from Disney World feeling like it was worth every penny (and believe me, there were a lot of pennies involved), then I'd have to say that there's many a good a reason why, imperfect as they are, the Disney parks are so successful.

    Christmas Music

    Mr. Card,

The Cincinnati band Over the Rhine has two "can't miss" Christmas albums that I literally make a an appointment with each year to listen to on headphones.

The Darkest Night of the Year - don't let the title fool you. This is an album about the greater glory without beating you over the head. The most unconventional Christmas album you are likely to find, it it my anchor for the season.

Snow Angels - this is a later release and is also excellent but is a bit more conventional. If you listen to nothing else this year, at least make sure you hear "Goodbye Charles", an ode to the Vince Guaraldi Trio Charlie Brown music without being strictly derivative.

You compared Circ du Soleil performers to olympic athletes. In fact they recruit heavily from the olympic ranks. They provide a very real form of income for many gymnists and divers.

I think I am a disobedient old coot at heart. I always read these reviews and Mr Card says exactly the things I would say about some of my favourite things, if I were a blogger.

    Opera singers singing non-opera songs
    November 30, 2012 | 04:30 AM

"Kiri Te Kanawa, perhaps the best soprano who ever lived (at least during the era of high fidelity recording), sounds downright silly singing Broadway songs." So true ... her one CD singing Michel Legrand songs was the only exception I can think of. And it's not great, just good.

Kinda funny that you mention Katherine Jenkins and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in such close proximity, since she sang with the MTC this past summer. The entire concert is available on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_dyT7dTQlk
