Let's Unlose This War

Pages 1 2 3 4
...continued from page 3

Sure that the driver his watch will keep

***

A hundred hearts beat placidly on,

Unwitting they that their warder's gone;

***

For the pace is hot, and the points are near,

And Sleep hath deadened the driver's ear;

And signals flash through the night in vain.

Death is in charge of the clattering train!

With his Oct. 4 column, Mr. Card should receive an award for what he has written. He just blew away any argument the liberal media, so-called intellectuals, and spineless politicians could muster to continue with the failed ideas and policies in place. We are at a time when these words need to be said, and said LOUDLY!

The list of senior terrorists killed during the Obama presidency is fairly extensive.

There’s Osama bin Laden, of course.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader Anwar al-Awlaki.

Al Qaeda’s chief of Pakistan operations, Abu Hafs al-Shahri, was killed in Waziristan, Pakistan.

In August, ‘Atiyah ‘Abd al-Rahman, the deputy leader of al Qaeda was killed.

In June, one of the group’s most dangerous commanders, Ilyas Kashmiri, was killed in Pakistan. In Yemen that same month, AQAP senior operatives Ammar al-Wa’ili, Abu Ali al-Harithi, and Ali Saleh Farhan were killed. In Somalia, Al-Qa’ida in East Africa (AQEA) senior leader Harun Fazul was killed.

Administration officials also herald the recent U.S./Pakistani joint arrest of Younis al-Mauritani in Quetta.

Going back to August 2009, Tehrik e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mahsud was killed in Pakistan.

In September of that month, Jemayah Islamiya operational planner Noordin Muhammad Top was killed in Indonesia, and AQEA planner Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan was killed in Somalia.

Then in December 2009 in Pakistan, al Qaeda operational commanders Saleh al-Somali and ‘Abdallah Sa’id were killed.

In February 2010, in Pakistan, Taliban deputy and military commander Abdul Ghani Beradar was captured; Haqqani network commander Muhammad Haqqani was killed; and Lashkar-e Jhangvi leader Qari Zafar was killed.

In March 2010, al Qaeda operative Hussein al-Yemeni was killed in Pakistan, while senior Jemayah Islamiya operative Dulmatin - accused of being the mastermind behind the 2002 Bali bombings â€" was killed during a raid in Indonesia.

In April 2010, al Qaeda in Iraq leaders Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi were killed.

In May, al Qaeda’s number three commander, Sheik Saeed al-Masri was killed.

In June 2010 in Pakistan, al Qaeda commander Hamza al-Jawfi was killed.

Remember when Rudy Giuliani warned that electing Barack Obama would mean that the U.S. played defense, not offense, against the terrorists?

Six months after George Bush said Osama bin Laden must be caught dead or alive, the president was asked, "Where is Osama bin Laden?" He said, "I don't know. I don't really think about him very much. I'm not that concerned."

I promise, I'm not ignorant of history, and I'm not laughing at this column!

I'm backing away slowly, making no sudden movements, and hoping you find help wherever you need it once I get away safely.

You're not just an ideologue - You're crazy.

    Winnie the Conservative Clay-Footed Icon
    October 04, 2012 | 02:18 PM

Churchill didn't save the world, he couldn't even keep the friggin British Empire. That would be FDR's United States, who both saved Winnie's fat English arse AND took away his Empire, thru Lend-Lease. And you can look that up.

Tell me, does Manchester cover Churchill's adventures in Iraq, gassing the people to steal their oil for BP?? THAT'S why Churchill is a rightwing icon. He was a pig, of by and for the 1% before his time, which is why the British public bounced him out as soon as he allowed an election after the war.

If you knew anything about the beginnings of WW2, and were honest, you would know and admit the West en masse were quiet when Hitler built up his war machine because they assumed accurately but not exclusively he would attack Russia to destroy Communism. Churchill, AND an alarmed FDR, knew better and became friends, for the good luck of Churchill.

What's left of this nation after the rightwing policies of Bush and Obama, who follows them, is being sliced and diced by your pirate buds in the Fed, by of and for the 1%, which is not coincidentally why you slobber over Churchill.

I'm done, and you should be.

Thank you, Mr. Card, for explaining this comparison. I'm glad I can always look forward to a reasoned, thoughtful article in your column.

Notice that Craig disputes only the praise for Churchill, not that Islamic extremists should be confronted.

    List of dead terrorists
    October 07, 2012 | 10:19 AM

For that list of dead terrorists? Don't forget that in Vietnam we measured victory by how many Vietcong and North Vietnamese bodies we piled up. How well did that work out for us?

Success against the Islamists would be measured in countries where they no longer have a presence, in reduced support for them in the Islamic world.

    An Appeal to Fellow Christians
    October 08, 2012 | 09:29 PM

When an American is asked who won World War II, the answer is invariably "We did." It is never "God did." We give ourselves glory for saving the world, but does God deserve any glory, and if so, how much? If Christians had not participated in the killing and destruction of that (or any) war, where would that leave God and His creation? In other words, what would God do if ALL Christians obeyed Christ by loving their enemies and not resisting evil persons, rather than killing them? Would He be powerless to stop the servants of Satan from taking over the world, powerless to carry out the Second Coming to recover it? If so, Satan would be delighted for us to obey Christ so faithfully. But the Flood, Sodom, and Gomorrah demonstrate God’s ability to destroy the wicked without assistance. If He’s not powerless, He doesn’t need Christians to disobey Christ to save His creation. If He doesn’t need us to disobey Christ, why should we? Can we not trust God for an outcome that is acceptable to Him? It's His world, after all, not ours. Let Him take responsibility for the consequences of our obedience. Let Him decide who will populate and rule His world (Nazis, communists, Muslims or maybe people who aren’t so scary) and whether “our people” will survive. In the first three centuries, the Church came closest to realizing the ideal of loving enemies - a rejection of violence that did not result in calamity for God. He doesn’t seem to be too anxious about it since He wants us to repay evil with good (war is repaying evil with evil, but no accommodation is made for a "necessary evil"). Does that guarantee our personal safety? No. But if you’re willing to die for something Jesus never promoted â€" political freedoms â€" you should be willing to die for what was important to him â€" the kingdom of God. The martyrs did it - so can you. Let God decide whether to allow our enemies to kill us, enslave us, or neither.
