Public Schools doing business with a black bank August 19, 2012 | 11:12 AM
As a native of Durham, NC where Mechanics & Farmers Bank was founded and where many of its founders were members of my father's church, the White Rock Baptist Church, I can attest to that banks voracity in doing its business. Wells Fargo didn't exist in North Carolina when contracts were let to its original guarantor--Wachovia. There is no reason that some of the business of cities and states should not be awarded to minority banks; afterall proportionately minority children are more likely to be in the public school systems and these communities need to be underpinned by government investments as are those of the larger society.
