Hammer Wrong About Wealth
August 02, 2012 | 09:29 AM

I must take issue with Hammer's comment above: "The problem with the economy is that there are too few people getting richer every day and too many people getting poorer every day." All over the world, and particularly in the US, the number of wealthy people is growing by leaps and bounds, and their share of the national wealth is exploding. There's no shortage of wealth, it is just that too much of it has moved into the hands of the elite, and away from everyday people. We have reached the point where the 500 richest persons on Earth have as much wealth as the entire bottom half of humanity combined. No reasonable person can deny that this is a perversion of the capitalist system in the extreme. A zillionaire President is the last thing we need.
